The photo is part of the current roster entry, so it should be read with the same caution as the rest of the report. The Wadena County Sheriff's Office warning says the information may not be current, accurate, or complete, and the report attempts to update about every 24 hours. A person can disappear from the photo roster after release, transfer, sentence completion, or a report update. The county did not publish a precise rule such as a fixed number of hours after release.
What is and is not public: Wadena County current roster entries can show one booking photo, booking date, name, charges, status, and some sentence or release fields. The inspected report did not show a public photo archive, prior mugshots, multiple angles, date of birth, physical descriptors, housing unit, or booking number.

Wadena County Mugshot Law
Minnesota law is direct about booking photographs. Minn. Stat. 13.82, subd. 26 defines a booking photograph as a photo or electronic image taken by law enforcement for identification in connection with an arrest. The same subdivision says a booking photograph is public data unless another rule applies. It also allows a law-enforcement agency to temporarily withhold access when release would adversely affect an active investigation.

Minn. Stat. 13.03 presumes government data are public for inspection and copying unless a law classifies them otherwise.
Minn. Stat. 13.85 classifies some corrections and detention data when disclosure would create safety, investigation, informant, or facility-security risks.
Those laws explain both sides of the Wadena County mugshot process. A current booking photo can be public, yet a specific photo or related record may still be withheld or limited if the sheriff determines that public access would harm an active investigation or if another data classification applies.
Request Wadena County Booking Photos

The form's photo option is separate from the public roster view, so it is the better channel when the current report no longer shows the person.
Why Mugshots May Be Missing
A missing Wadena County booking photo can have several ordinary explanations. The person may not be in current Wadena County jail custody. The roster may not have refreshed since booking. The person may have been released, transferred, sentenced, held for another agency, or moved to a separate state, federal, or immigration system. The sheriff may also withhold a booking photo for a time if release would adversely affect an active investigation.
Agency scope also matters. WCSO says it maintains records for its own agency only. If the underlying police report or arrest photo was created by Menahga, Sebeka, Verndale, or Wadena Police Department, the sheriff may not hold the original record. In that case, the records request may need to go to the police department that created the data. Current custody can still be checked with the jail when the person is held at the Wadena County Detention Facility.

Mugshots and Court Records
Wadena County jail mugshots are booking records. They are not the same thing as court records, and they do not prove conviction. After an arrest, the jail report may show the booking charge, while the Wadena County Attorney decides what formal charges to file in court. The Minnesota Court Records Online portal can show case events and public documents, but it is not a mugshot database.
For the custody side, use the roster and Wadena County inmate records. For the court side, use Wadena County court records after jail arrest once a case exists. Pending criminal cases may not return by defendant-name search in MCRO if there is no conviction, so a case number is often the better court search key.
Wadena County Mugshot Removal
Mugshot removal should not be treated as a simple web-form request. Minnesota law makes booking photographs public data in many cases, with an active-investigation withholding rule and other data classifications. The Wadena County roster appears to show photos while the person is listed in current custody, but the county did not publish a guaranteed removal time after release. Once the current report refreshes, a released or transferred person may no longer appear there.
Expungement is different from roster refresh. Minnesota has automatic and petition-based expungement statutes, including Minn. Stat. 609A.015 and Minn. Stat. 609A.03, for eligible outcomes. Sealing a court record does not prove that every copied image outside official county control has vanished. For Wadena-origin records, use WCSO records for official photo questions and court or legal resources for expungement questions. Commercial pay-for-removal offers are not an official county remedy.
State and Federal Photos
State, federal, and immigration systems should not be confused with Wadena County jail mugshots. The Minnesota DOC Locator covers adults committed to the Commissioner of Corrections and still under DOC jurisdiction. It may show public DOC profile information, but it is not the Wadena County booking photo archive. DOC facility notifications are also routed differently from county jail VINE notifications, with Minnesota Haven used for DOC-facility victim notification.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons locator is for federal custody and release information from 1982 to present, not a public arrest-photo gallery. The ICE Online Detainee Locator can locate immigration detainees by A-number and country or by name, country of birth, and birth date, but it is not a mugshot publication system. No BOP prison, ICE detention facility, or state prison was identified inside Wadena County in the research.
